Mr. David Allen Andrews, 76, a longtime and well-known resident of the Rolling Mill Hill section of the city, passed into glory unexpectedly Saturday evening as an emergency patient of the Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre Hospital.
Born on Tuesday, December 6, 1949 in Wilkes-Barre, he was one of nine children to the late Lee and Margaret (Sickler) Andrews.
Educated in the city schools, he was a member of the 1967 graduating class of the former Grand Army of the Republic Memorial High School, Wilkes-Barre.
Following his formal education, he enlisted with the United States Marine Corps, serving during the Viet Nam era. At the time of his Honorable Discharge from military duties, he earned the rank of Lance Corporal.
Until his retirement, Mr. Andrews was employed as the building and grounds manager for the American Red Cross Blood Donation Center in the Hanover Industrial Park where he garnered many friends over the years.
Previously in his spare time and being an avid outdoorsman, Mr. Andrews enjoyed taking his family camping and fishing. He was also a talented woodworker.
Above all else he is best remembered as being a loving, devoted husband to his wife, the former Carol (Wasnalas) Andrews, who passed during couple's fortieth wedding anniversary on February 4, 2013; A supportive dad to his children Cory A. Andrews and his wife Jenny of Hunlock Creek along with Emily Andrews Feeney and her husband Joseph of Glenolden, PA, and the best grandpop to Jace A. and Ella R. Andrews.
He was a wonderful brother to his siblings Francis, Richard, Lee, Merle and Ronald Andrews along with Wilma Repert, Joan Gwynn and Renee Modzelewski whose families will also miss their uncle David dearly.
Funeral services for Mr. Andrews will be conducted on Friday, February 27th at 11:00 a.m. from the John V. Morris Family Funeral Home, 625 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will follow next to his wife Carol in the Hanover Green Cemetery, Hanover Green section of Hanover Township.
Relatives and friends may join the Andrews family for visitation and shared remembrances Friday morning at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.
